Make-up Mondays: Review of Essence’s Hydro Hero range | Berea Mail

WE are currently in the thick of what feels like one of the coldest winters in Durban. Besides the physical discomfort from feeling cold, the nippy weather also has negative side effects on the skin.

Cooler air carries less water and can affect our bodies over time, particularly the eyes and skin. During the winter season, using moisture-heavy lotions, creams and make-up products is an important part of keeping your skin healthy and free from rashes or cracks from dryness.

Just in time for the cold weather, Essence has brought out a brand new Hydro Hero range! The range features a range of products that will keep your skin creamy and moisturised to combat the effects of the cold weather.

Caxton Local Media journalist Nia Louw gave the new Hydro Hero range a try over a two-week period and was blown away by the results.

This travel-sized product is excellent for under-eye puffiness and discolouration. Within a week, my under-eyes were much less sunken and my skin in the area became firmer and gave me a fuller-looking under-eye. I noticed, in the two-week period, that the general discolouration I suffer from beneath my eyes was much less visible. The use of the Hydro Hero Under-eye Stick brought an even tone to my face. I strongly recommend this product for those skincare and make-up enthusiasts who suffer from dark circles and bags under their eyes.

Hydro Hero 24hr Hydrating Tinted Cream

The Hydro Hero 24h Hydrating Tinted Cream combines foundation, moisturiser and sunscreen in one product. The product keeps the skin protected and moisturised for 24 hours, not only due to this BB cream’s SPF content but also because of its 88% natural-ingredient formula enriched with hyaluronic acid to boost the skin’s hydration. With buildable, light-to-medium coverage, the BB cream creates an even complexion with a fresh, natural finish.

The foundation comes in three shades: Natural Ivory, Soft Nude and Sun Beige. I opted for the Sun Beige shade and was able to use the product on a daily basis for a soft and light make-up look that gave my skin a flawless yet natural finish. I recommend this product for those worker bees who don’t have much time to spare for make-up in the morning but want a soft, glam look for daily wear.

The Hydra Matte Lipstick is long-lasting and provides plenty of moisture. Containing hyaluronic acid, shea butter, sunflower oil and a vitamin complex, the lipstick provides all the nourishment your lips need.

The texture creates a creamy matte finish and feels pleasant on the lips and impresses with its high-colour pay-off that lasts.

The lipstick comes in eight colours, with a colour for every occasion. I recommend this lipstick for anyone who hates having to re-apply coats of lipstick to get the colour to stay. I used my Hydra Matte Lipstick on a daily basis, and it kept my lips soft and popping with colour.

Hello, Good Stuff! Glow Serum Primer

The Glow Serum Primer is a lightweight, absorbent gel primer. It provides the skin with a smooth and naturally glowing finish and contains watermelon water. Watermelon water contains tons of vitamin C, which keeps the skin healthy and glowing. It provides a great base for the Hydro Hero 24h Hydrating Tinted Cream and also works well in conjunction with the Hydro Hero Under-eye Stick.

Sensitive But Wow Volume Mascara

This mascara is perfect for make-up wearers with sensitive eyes or for contact-lens wearers. It is light but effective and does not smudge easily. My favourite thing about this mascara is that it is easily removable, and it just takes a bit of warm water to wipe it off at the end of a long day.

In this video, Cosmetix South Africa team member, Olivia Howarth, takes you through each product in the new Essence Hydro Hero range!

This Winter Essence is offering 20% off all foundations from June until August, available at all retailers!
